The Iran-Iraq contend is also known as the First Persian disconnection War. The war was the longest conventional war. The war lasted for 7 years, from September 1980 to August 1988. The battle took place between the fortify forces of Iran and Iraq.
Iraq was the number 1 one to attack. They attacked from the sky and land on twenty-second September 1980. This was followed by a long history of moulding disputes. Iraq also feared the Shia Islam insurgency among Iraqs long-suppressed Shia majority who were encouraged by the Iranian Revolution. By 1982 Iran had regained almost all its lost grime and were on the offense for the next 6 years. One of the goals of this war was also to replace Iran as the dominant Persian Gulf State.
The U.S also had a hand in this war. They were focused on isolating Iran as well as maintaining Freedom of water travel; Criticizing Irans mining of international waters and thus helped the U.N by sponsoring the Security Council Resolution 598, which was passed unanimously. There were three operations of the U.S in which they crossed swords with the Iranian armed forces. They were Operation Nimble bowman and Operation Earnest Will and Operation Praying Mantis. In the first operation they attacked Iranian oil platforms in retaliation for an Iranian attack on US-flagged Kuwait tanker Sea isle city.
