It was adopted for a few several(predicate) reasons in which this paper will discuss. There were several moments that take up to this change as well as several major events that took place during this time. Even with Imperialisms popularity there was an American anti Imperialists League that did not support Imperialism. This organization was established in the United States on June 15, 1898 to battle the American annexation of the Philippines which were de jure called insular areas. Imperialism refers to political, economic, or cultural expansion of ones influence over any other geographical or political territory. The United States adopted this for a couple different reasons. The main reason this policy was adopted was because the United States industrial economy was growing so fast that they were producing more than goods than they could consume. This over abundance of goods forced the United States to look for new markets to manage their goods. Another reason this was adopted is because the Americans were discontent with the way Spaniards were treating the Cubans.

This led to the Spanish American War, which was the even that really opened the doors for American Imperialism. The Spanish American War was a major event that made the United States able to follow Imperialism. The United States forces foiled the Spanish forces which caused Spain to lose Cuba, Guam and Puerto Rico to the United States. The United States in like manner gained control of the Philippines at this time. The Spanish American War excessively made the United States want a canal to comport better access for trade and military support in both the American Imperialism 2 Atlantic and Pacific Oceans.
