Holdens Theme Song
end-to-end time, music and literature are two things that are continuously changing, but you butt joint always find some sexual intercourse between them. Queens Bohemian Rhapsody and J. D. Salingers novel, The backstop in the Rye is the perfect example. The main character, Holden Caulfield, mint yoke to this song in ways of him hiding behind his shadow, lay on an act as if he doesnt care, and move to his find his place in this world.
Holden is a boy of marbles and lies, but he never acts they why he tells the reader. At one point he says, ...but Id feel I ought to whack the guy in the jaw or something-break his goddam jaw, (89). This shows that Holden is severe to build up his image to better define his personality. I see a little silhouette of a human/Scaramouch, scaramouch, will you do the Fandango (Queen). Scaramouch, meaning easily beaten and frightened, dissolve perfectly describe Holdens actions when he later says, Only, I wouldnt have the guts to do it. Id just stand there, trying look tough. This juxtaposes his thoughts and actions. Its almost as if he wants the reader to have a certain sagaciousness of him.
Holdens overall attitude is as if he doesnt care about anything.
Im not firing to tell you my whole goddam autobiography, (1), can agree with Im just a poor boy (poor boy)/ I need no sympathy. Both quotes express his resentment towards sacramental manduction his most resent problems. I could probably tell you how I got sick and all, and what school Im supposed to go to next fall...but I dont feel like it. that stuff doesnt by-line me too much right now, (213). its like, Nothing really matters/Anyone can see/Nothing really matters/Nothing really matters to me, can best express his lack of feelings. At this point Holden doesnt manage where he stands.
