Transpiration Investigation

Transpiration Investigation

Task: to investigate the effect of temperature on the rate of transpiration in a named plant

Transpiration is the loss of irrigate by evaporation by means of the stomata from the surface of leaves.

Once in the xylem vessels, irrigate supply forms unbroken columns from the root through the stem into the leaves.

piss evaporates form the leaves - mainly from critical pores from the underside of the leaf c solelyed stomata. This process is called transpiration.

As water f ruggeds, more than is drawn from the xylem. This movement of water sucks on the water pickaxe the xylem vessels of the stem. As the water is sucked upwards through the xylem of the stem, more water is supplied to the bottom of the xylem by the roots. There is a continuous pitiful column of water from the roots to the leaves. This is called the transpiration stream.

Temperature affects the rate of transpiration because the hotter it is, the rate of transpiration increases. This is because plants transpire more quickly when the temperature is higher, so they dont drive out of water vapour. For example, at night when the temperature is much lower, all the stomata close therefore reducing water loss.

The independent protean I will choose will be the temperature, I will vary it in the lab by placing single plant in an incubator at a low temperature e.g. 10oC and another one at a higher temperature, e.g. 25oC.

I will then leave them for a reasonable criterion of time, about 12 hours, and then record the amount of water transpired per hour.

Aim - To investigate the effect of light intensity on transpiration in the plants leaves
